With over forty years under its belt, the celebrated Tailem Bend Christmas Parade, the legendary Tailem Topics and the ever growing annual Christmas Parade Cabaret under its wings, the Tailem Bend Progress Association, continues to quietly support the ever growing community.
Fast becoming the envy of many South Australian country towns, Tailem Bend and the Tailem Bend Progress Association is refocusing on the rapidly transforming needs of its community.
One of the many Tailem Bend Progress Association volunteers, Photographer and Writer, Glenn Power of Tailem Bend, believes that more needs to be done and quickly.
“The Progress Association has a huge pool of volunteers actively doing things like organising Santa, parade floats, traffic control, entertainment, catering logistics, journalism, photography, printing, distribution, advertising, fund raising, just to name a few, but we need more,” Glenn said. “With so many town beautification and service projects on the boil, the Tailem Bend Progress Association needs more volunteers.”
One of Tailem Bend Progress Association’s notorious “Wurtun Gang”, Peter Connolly of Tailem Bend, putting some final touches on his gangs refurbishing of the historic Wurtun Station.
“We’re focusing on action, we’re looking for doers – not committee members, no need to turn up for long meetings, just come and share your ideas, join up and register on our data base and we’ll keep you informed of all community projects,” Glenn said. “You can select what suits you and what you’re passionate about – we guarantee that whatever you do, is going to be satisfying and fun, what you put in – you get out.”
“For years one of our quiet achievers, has been our Bingo Ticket Team – who every eight weeks, strategically positioned in a Murray Bridge shopping centre, raises much needed funds for Tailem Bend groups, like the Primary School Pedal Prix, Kindergarten, Bowling Club, Blue Light Disco, Dog Park and the town’s recently refurbished, Bush Tucker & Wildflower Garden – you will also see the Bingo Ticket sellers regularly outside Hughes’ Newsagency, main street, Tailem Bend.”
Why not come along with your ideas and join up for only $5 per year – committee positions are all currently filled. Tailem Bend Progress Association’s AGM is scheduled for Wednesday, August 15, 7.30 pm sharp, at the Tailem Bend Community Centre.
New members and volunteers are always welcome and are a necessary part of a successful organisation – if you can’t make it to the AGM, text your details to 0413 645 099 or email email@example.com and you will be kept informed.
